Video Contest

From Monica Hamburg

The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society is running a contest to promote Canada's national parks: the Celebrate Parks contest ( http://celebrateparks.ca). It asks that participants make a video about a national park and why it's so wonderful. (We are looking for, essentially, on-camera testimonials, shot anywhere.)

Our contest ends in about 2 weeks (on October 12th) and so far only 1 video has been submitted about Waterton Lakes National Park. We’d love to better showcase its beauty and appeal - and we’d love your help to do so. Many Canadians may not have experience with Waterton Lakes National Park - but you have and you can help educate people about the park with your video - and have the chance to win great prizes!

One of the contest's aims is to raise awareness: the videos allow all Canadians to learn about the parks, thus encouraging them to see them live.

Please consider creating a video and mentioning the contest to your friends.

Notes:
The contest is open to all Canadians ages 13 and over.
The videos need only be 2 minutes in length or under.
Remember: You are welcome to shoot the video anywhere, including in your home. You don't have to record in the park.
More information can be found on the site http://celebrateparks.ca
And a 1-page info sheet is at: http://bit.ly/dg3xZF
Prizes:
Grand prize: A guided trip for two (as part of a group excursion) down the world-famous South Nahanni River in Nahanni National Park Reserve, NWT, provided by Nahanni River Adventures. Includes airfare from a major Canadian city and a one-year family pass to all Canadian National Parks.) (Another incentive for videomakers -- the winning video will be screened at the Vancouver International Mountain Film Fest (VIMFF) in February 2011. VIMFF is Canada's prime festival of mountain film and adventure, happening in February over nice days in Vancouver, touring to 30+ communities and across Canada, and offering other special presentations. (For more info go towww.vimff.org.)

2nd place: A customized HD flip video camera and a one-year Parks Canada family or group pass.
